A dedicated space for testing
Our ASME Combat Robotics team is developing a 4 ft × 4 ft × 4 ft test enclosure to support robot and weapon-system testing as we prepare for competition. The first major fabrication milestone was turning the CAD design into a full-size, mobile steel frame.
My contribution
I worked alongside Nicholas Gatto and Madilyn Magno to fabricate the frame in one ten-hour workday. Together, we measured, cut, ground, fitted, welded, painted, and assembled the steel tubing, taking the project from a digital model to a physical structure.
This build brought together CAD, hands-on manufacturing, and team coordination. It gave me experience contributing to a larger welded assembly and working through the sequence of fabrication and assembly with my teammates.
From design to assembly
Build milestone and next steps
By the end of the day, the team had fabricated, painted, and assembled the mobile steel frame. The enclosure remains in development, with additional work required before it is ready for robot testing.
Completing the frame in a single day was a major step toward establishing the team’s testing infrastructure.
